A supplier engaged by the main contractor to deliver a part of a public contract, named on the bid where regulations require.
A firm or individual hired by the prime contractor to deliver part of the works, supplies or services under a public contract. In Irish public works, subcontractors must be declared and (above certain thresholds) appear under the Construction Industry Register Ireland (CIRI) and Relevant Contracts Tax (RCT) regimes. The contracting authority retains rights of approval and the prime contractor remains liable for performance.
